Caucasian beautiful girl holds hair in hand, raise up hands. It happens to most of us as we age – sagging, droopy upper arms. It can make you feel self-conscious and can keep you from wearing your favorite clothes. If you always feel like you have to cover up your arms, you should know that there is something you can do to get rid of that arm flab!

What can be done about flabby arms?

That flab in the upper arms can be very difficult to get rid of, and it can appear even if you’ve spent years going to the gym and working hard to stay healthy. Flabby arms can be caused by

1. Hormones

2. Genetics

3. Aging (the upper arms start to look saggy in our 30s, typically)

4. Weight loss – you may have lost flab in other areas of your body, but when you lose a lot of weight it can leave dangling, excess skin in the arms

5. Too much sun over the years. UV radiation can reduce the elasticity in the skin, which can contribute to flabby arms.

Staying in shape, taking care of yourself, staying out of the sun and wearing sunscreen when you do go outside are all good tips to try to prevent flabby arms, but what if you get them anyway? Brachioplasty may be the answer!

Brachioplasty (the medical term for an arm lift) is a low-risk procedure to get rid of excess skin and fat. It smooths out the remaining tissue and contours and tones the arms.

What happens after an arm lift?

Your arms will be swollen after your surgery; ice packs and elevating your head can help. Most patients can return to work within a few days, although you should avoid strenuous activity and lifting your arms above your shoulders. The swelling and bruising may last for some weeks, but once this goes down, the results of your brachioplasty can last for years. Just make sure to take care of yourself!
